"Prefontaine" starred Jared Leto (who is also in the fantastic "Requiem For A Dream", "Fight Club", "The Panic Room", and "Girl Interrupted"), Laurel Holloman (who had a recurring role on "Angel" and now stars on "The 'L' Word"), R. Lee Ermey (of "Full Metal Jacket" and "Toy Story" fame, along with about a billion other movies and TV shows), Lindsay Crouse ("House of Games", "The Arrival", "If These Walls Could Talk", and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Ed O'Neill ("Married With Children"), Amy Locane (also in the wonderful movie "Blue Sky"), & the very funny Breckin Meyer (of "54" and "Go").
This was a really fun, very physical shoot, and the cast & crew were amazingly talented, and frankly, just plain nice people to work with. My job as an on set Promotions Assistant was basically to publicize the location shoots at various stadiums here in Washington (the pictures above were from the shooting days at Husky Stadium at UW) to get people for the crowd scenes we needed. Then while the Director, Steve James, attended to the action on the field, I and my team, had to wrangle the 10,000 some extras that we had invited to the shoot, to get the crowd to react in certain ways to match the scene, keep everybody in their seats for the sake of continuity, etc.
Some of the more complex shooting days were on location filming scenes in the University of Washington's Husky Stadium. To shoot the running scenes, a special sidecar was mounted on a motorcycle so that several cameras (including a Steadicam mount), could ride along and capture the action. This was a great shoot. Jared was kind as could be, and BTW, his mom (who visited the set one day), was funny as hell.
