"Riley Parra" is a procedural drama, but with a paranormal twist. It's the story of a good detective working in a corrupt police department that sits on the literal border between Good & Evil. Demons and Angels wage a secret war across the boundary that's been drawn through her city by supernational forces. Riley has been chosen as a mortal champion of Good, and must fight the champions of Evil.
It stars Marem Hassler as Riley (who is kind beyond measure), Liz Vassey as her girlfriend (whom I love from "Nikki & Nora" and "The Tick"), the magnificent Carolyn Ratteray as the Angel (from "NCIS" & The Young and the Restless" – again, could not be more delightful), Maeve Quinlan (from "South of Nowhere," and "The Bold & the Beautiful,") Whitney Mixter ("The Real LWord"), Connor Trinneer ("Pretty Little Liars", "Stargate: Atlantis" & "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"), and Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi from "Star Trek: The Next Generation").
So, pretty cool, especially for a Star Trek nerd like me.
On this webseries for Tello Films, I was privileged to work as the VFX Supervisor for the second season, creating visual evidence of angelic divinity like "wings of light" for the screen, and demonstrating angelic travel from another dimension into our own.
I got to help other young women filmmakers to advance their careers in front of, and behind the camera, share more of what I knew about Set Lighting & VFX, and create more content for underrepresented communities that are desperate to see validating, supportive, and accurate portrayals of themselves.
The series got accepted to be in Outfest Los Angeles, so we premiered a screening at the Director's Guild which was super fun. My fellow cast and crew members are awesome beyond measure, working with next to no resources, and yet, coming up with amazing work with high production values in spite of that. I was very happy to add my small part to this effort.
