I was invited to author a series of technical articles for Intel's Visual Computing Community detailing the mechanics of lighting within the Autodesk XSI Softimage software package, & how to incorporate the language of light used in fine art, theater, & film into CGI scenes.
Here in 3D Lighting in Softimage, I explained the basic types of lights an artist can deploy, how to associate geometry with particular lights, adjust ambience, animate lighting, and add atmospheric effects to 3D VFX scenes through the use of volumetrics. The article also covers how to master the use of caustics to achieve realistic reflection and refraction.
