I was invited to author a series of technical articles for Intel's Visual Computing Community detailing the mechanics of lighting within the Autodesk XSI Softimage software package, and how to incorporate the language of light used in fine art, theater, and film into CGI scenes.
My next article for Intel covered Advanced Rendering Techniques, and addressed Image-Based Lighting (IBL) and how to work with High Dynamic Range Images (HDRI) as well as speaking to how to refine Global Illumnation settings & Final Gather passes. I also briefly discuss how to work with Mental Ray render options.
